What Is SLIM?¶
SLIM stands for SnapLogic Intelligent Modernizer and it is a tool that enables you to replace existing integrations built in legacy technology with SnapLogic assets using your live integration configurations as a starting point.
SLIM reads an export from your existing integration platform, works out what those integrations actually do today, and builds the equivalent SnapLogic pipelines — with documentation and tests along the way.
The problem SLIM solves¶
All too often modernization projects start by re-discovering what the current estate does by teams that have inherited ownership of the legacy assets, and who typically work with them on a break-fix basis. That discovery is slow, and documentation is usually stale.
Starting from what is really running¶
SLIM uses the live integration configurations as the basis for its modernization process, analyzes what the integrations actually do (vs. what is documented), and then presents the information to stakeholders for them to make informed planning choices for how to move forward.
Value before a single pipeline is built¶
Through analyzing the existing integrations and exposing what they actually do, SLIM brings increased awareness and understanding of the user’s current technology and data processing routines.
Understanding this allows stakeholders to assign values to the existing integrations, assess whether these need to be continued into a new technology stack, or if there are duplicative or obsolete transformations that can be rationalized or retired, reducing administrative overhead, technical debt, and cost.
Of course, if integrations retain value and need to be modernized, SLIM can also help there by converting the underlying logic into new SnapLogic assets for use in the new technology stack.
These generated assets may be close to final, production quality, or they may need manual refinement, a task that can be completed in the visual SnapLogic Designer canvas.
Who uses SLIM¶
Typically SLIM users will be teams that support and maintain integrations on behalf of business teams who use the data the integrations provide.
At various steps of the process, multiple profiles of user may want or need to be involved in the decision-making SLIM supports.
Regardless of technical or business background, SLIM is intended to have an accessible user experience that supports increasing understanding without the need for extensive education or experience in multiple integration technologies.
All aspects of the SLIM application are designed to be used by delivery leads, business analysts, integration specialists, and other stakeholders without any need for coding or development experience.
